Traditional Aikido & Self-Defence Classes for Children in Melbourne
Help your child develop confidence, discipline, respect and practical self-defence skills in a safe, family-friendly environment.
Helping Children Grow Through Martial Arts
Give your kids the gift of martial arts and fitness with Aikido! Our children’s classes in Melbourne provide a fun, family-friendly environment where kids can learn from world-class instructors.
All of our instructors hold Working With Children Checks and have experience working with children. Several members of our teaching team also have qualifications in early childhood education, helping create a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
Your child will develop confidence, discipline, focus and essential life skills that will benefit them for years to come, while building friendships, improving fitness and learning practical self-defence in a respectful dojo community.
Discipline, Confidence & Focus
Aikido fosters a strong sense of self-control, resilience and focus in children, helping them navigate challenges both on and off the mat. The emphasis on personal progress rather than competition allows kids to build confidence in a supportive setting.
Self-Defence Skills
Aikido teaches children to use an opponent’s energy against them, offering practical self-defence techniques that are effective and accessible for children of all sizes. This approach builds confidence without promoting aggression or violence.
Non-Violent Philosophy
Aikido promotes conflict resolution by teaching children how to avoid and de-escalate conflict while developing communication skills, respect and emotional maturity that will benefit them throughout life.
MARTIAL ARTS FOR LIFE
Healthy, happy children need play and social interaction. Whether you agree with bans on social media for children under 16 years of age or not, kids need a safe, respectful and nurturing environment.
At Aikido Shudokan we offer structured programs that develop confidence, focus, discipline and physical coordination.
Our community is made up of many parents, several of whom also train alongside their children, making Aikido an activity the whole family can enjoy together.
WHY FAMILIES CHOOSE AIKIDO SHUDOKAN

CLASSES FOR KIDS AT AIKIDO SHUDOKAN
The safety and wellbeing of our students is paramount. This is why we offer specialist children’s classes designed specifically for different age groups.
When children join Aikido Shudokan they learn a martial art that teaches harmony and cooperation. Unlike many other martial arts, students work together to develop practical self-defence skills through non-striking techniques in a supportive environment.
